While visiting Lake Tahoe, NV one summer,
I wandered through a vendor show that was set up next to the casino where I was staying. There I met Takao Wakida, a Japanese photographer. I
was in awe of the excellence of his work. At that time, I bought several of his prints. During my stay in Lake Tahoe I went back repeatedly
to talk with Takao and discussed art and photography with him. I explained that in all my travels I had never met anyone who captured
the object, lighting and action as he did. We became friends and permission was granted that enable me to paint this
photograph.
I was so thrilled with the lighting and composition of his photograph of Wahola's Cabin
and Cypress Tree at Point Lobos State Park in Carmel, CA that I decided to paint it in oil and also do a rendering of the same photograph
in pen & ink. The outcome and uniqueness of both these pieces were well worth the time and energy it took to complete these
renderings. |
